THE FUTURE
PITCH VIDEO
In order to seek wider funding for the project, a pitch video of approximately three-and-a-half minutes will be necessary, to present to funding councils and potentially even on a crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter. The short film would include some of the interactive video filmed for this initial prototype, as well as additional contextual footage, all presented alongside an explanatory voiceover. Find a full shooting script for the promotional pitch video here:
FUNDING
In order to gain the funding needed to complete Phase Two of The 247 Hours Project, in which we will build the virtual reality experience, two avenues will be pursued. First, we will use a crowdfunding platform like Kickstarter, and as an incentive, those who donate will receive one of the following options, depending on the amount donated:
-
a physical copy of the 247 Hours: The Game (the board game);
-
a voucher to redeem a copy of the VR game when it's available;
-
a physical copy of the board game + a voucher to redeem a copy of the VR game when it's available; or
-
a physical copy of the board game (personalized to the donor's hometown) + a voucher to redeem a copy of the VR game when it's available.
The second round of funding would be pursued through arts and research grants.
STAFF
in order to produce the virtual reality version of The 247 Hours project experience, I would see to hire the following:
-
Programmer: to fully code the immersive interactions that would connect a user's virtual reality controller with the film progression, as well as the Trip Time function that measures various journey times based on user choices.
-
Graphic designer: to design a professional-looking interface for the introduction, interaction and closing parts of the VR experience.
-
Film crew: to aid with sound, video and production during recording of a 360-degree film experience, as well as the film editing afterward.
PROTOTYPING: THE NEXT ROUND
Upon creation of a physical prototype of the immersive, virtual reality version of the 247 hours project, it would be necessary to gather a second focus group of participants who can test out the project's functioning in a VR space (using a virtual reality headset and controller). Adjustments and improvements would be made according to feedback and a third and final focus group would test out the final product.
COMPLETION
Ideally, this virtual, immersive experience would be taken to city halls and urban planning firms across the UK and beyond, to provide city councillors and urban planners (both majority male populations, in this current moment) the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of a solo female, journeying home, a simple but critical part of every woman's experience. Additionally, it can be presenting as a solo exhibition, featured in galleries or museum spaces, which can provide the wider public the opportunity to try the experience for itself. The secondary utilization of the virtual reality experience would be intended to invoke greater empathy for solo females moving around cities, amongst the wider population (and in particular those who feel they've not had this experience). For this reason, the immersive quality of the virtual experience is key, as it may fuel empathy in ways that 2-D film experiences cannot.
