ENGLISH FOR ACTION LONDON (EFA)

Since joining the English for Action London team in February 2021, my role has grown beyond major donor fundraising to include communications, finance, and project development/management responsibilities. EFA is an action-orientated charity that works with migrants, refugees, and people seeking asylum, to build the capacity for migrants to participate fully in our communities. We use English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) education and community organising principles to encourage migrant-led campaigning for a fairer, more just London, in which all people are made to feel supported and welcomed. This position with EFA has brought together my previous experience in language education and communications, and it has afforded me the opportunity to branch out further into practicing other element elements of charity operations, including finance.

RINGLE ENGLISH EDUCATION SERVICE

Until January 2021, I had the opportunity to support Korean English learners pursue their language improvement goals, be they for professional opportunities or personal development. I worked for Ringle as an English as a Second Language teacher with Ringle, a Korean startup targeting Asian professionals and university students who wished to improve their formal and conversational English. On a weekly basis, I tutored 15-20 students in one-on-one, individually tailored courses, providing discussion practice, real-time feedback and corrections, and post-class follow-up reports to help guide students toward their English goals. Students included employees of Facebook, Samsung, the United Nations and beyond. The experience was both educational for the students and for myself, as this position afforded me the opportunity to learn about South Korean history, politics, and culture, and to build friendships with professionals across the world.

VALLEY OF THE SUN ESTATES & PROPERTIES, INC.

From 2015 to 2020, I served as the webmaster and social media manager for a local small business in Scottsdale, Arizona. In this position, I was first tasked with creating and designing the business's online materials and social media outreach. After completing this plan, I then continuously developed and implemented marketing materials, communicated with potential clients, and managed the various social media channels through which we communicated with potential future clients and those interested in Arizona real estate trends. This was a remote, part-time position that came to a close alongside the end of my master's course.

JUNTA DE ANDALUCÍA

I worked as an English language instructor at two public schools in Málaga, Spain, through a grant provided by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Education and Sport. The opportunity allowed me to work in bilingual schools with children ages 3-16 years old, assisting in classes ranging from physical education to music to biology. My duties included preparing lessons, leading class activities and discussions and participating in cultural and language exchange. The work also allowed me to be fully immersed in Spanish culture and to work toward achieving full fluency in the language.

LYCÉE LA BORDE BASSE

I worked as a language instructor at a high school in Southwest France through a cultural exchange sponsored by the French Embassy to the United States. My duties included conducting English conversation groups, tutoring students in English and helping the students prepare for their oral exams by coaching them on topics ranging from immigration and gun control to modern hero myths. The position allowed me to be fully immersed in French life and to work on achieving full fluency in the language, which is a skill that I hope will serve me in my future work.

GANNETT DESIGN STUDIO

From July 2016 to September 2016, I was offered a temporary position as a page editor for the Gannett Design Studio in Phoenix, Arizona. During the summer between my two school years as an English Language Assistant in France, I worked with a team of page editors and designers to finalize and proof between 7 and 11 print newspapers per day. In this capacity, I wrote headlines, decks and cutlines, as well as trimming stories, writing front page refers and proofreading regional Gannett papers for publication. Each day improved and reinforced my copy editing and AP style skills, as well as my eye for the visual appearance of each page of our print publications.

THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC // AZCENTRAL.COM

From December 2013 to August 2015, I worked as an online producer for the Things to Do desk at The Arizona Republic, covering events, nightlife, celebrities and other entertainment categories. I also worked with the Associated Press wire, moving stories that cover a range of lifestyle topics, from food and travel to movies and music. Additionally, I was responsible for maintaining the Twitter pages for AZCentral Things to Do, AZCentral Dining and AZCentral Travel, as well as for posting AZCentral's feature stories to the outlet's main Twitter feed.

During my time at the Republic, I was also offered a two-month position on the Contributions desk as a news assistant. The position was created to alleviate the workload of the desk's editors as they worked on a seasonal project, and I was given the opportunity to copy edit and produce a range of freelance community, news and features stories for both print and web.

FOOTHILLS FOOD BANK

Beginning January 2013, I served as a Social/Media and Web Intern for the Foothills Food Bank in Cave Creek, Arizona. More information about the work I completed is on my CV and on the Blogs & Websites page of this portfolio.
